Karen first jointed the ABC in 1989, after completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Psychology at Macquarie University in Sydney. She spent eight years as a sports reporter and presenter, anchoring golf, tennis and other major sports broadcasts.
After eight years with TV Sport, Karen Tighe made the move to ABC Radio as the presenter of the weekend national sports program Grandstand in 1997.
She has covered four Paralympic Games with ABC TV - Barcelona, Atlanta, Lillehammer, and of course Sydney; and was one of the hosts of ABC Radio's Coverage of the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur.
Karen was announced the winner of the Media Award at the 2000 Australian Sports Awards Ceremony in Adelaide for her work as host of the ABC's coverage of the Sydney Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Karen now lives in Perth with her husband, fellow ABC Sports commentator Glenn Mitchell, and in the spare time she has when not presenting, playing or watching sport, can be found renovating and searching out antiques.
